Project Status Update
The study phase for the project has been completed. Design Approval of the Phase I Combined Design Report was provided on June 1, 2012. Final design of the project has been completed. Utilities have begun relocating their facilities that are in conflict with the project. IDOT has been acquiring temporary and permanent easements needed for the project.

An advance construction contract will construct a new ComEd utility service road with relocated entrance from McCoy Drive. Plans for that work were sent to contractors for bidding with construction of it to begin this spring and be completed during 2014. That work will enable the existing service road entrance from Ogden Avenue just west of the CN Railroad tracks to be closed so the elevated roadway can then be built.
Plans for a steel beam fabrication contract for the highway overpass bridge have been sent to contractors for bidding with that off-site work to begin this year. That work will allow steel for the bridge to be available for delivery as soon as it is needed.
Plans for the main contract that will build the grade separation will be sent to contractors for bidding soon. Initial work under that contract will consist of constructing temporary storm sewers and pavement widening. It will be performed during the summer and fall of 2014 and require a temporary reduction to one traffic lane in each direction. The north portion of the highway bridge over the railroad and the elevated roadway leading up to it will then be built during 2015 with one traffic lane in each direction maintained. The remaining south portion of the project will then be built during the following year with one lane of traffic in each direction continuing to be maintained until completion of the project during the fall of 2016.
